Auch 2010 findet wieder das MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival statt, dieses Jahr in der Kinowoche vom 17. bis zum 23. Juni im Gloria Filmpalast am Stachus. Die Veranstalter rufen derzeit Filmemacher aus aller Welt auf, ihre Kurzfilme über die Onlineplattform reelport.com beim Festival einzureichen – deutschsprachige Filme sind allerdings nicht zugelassen. Aus diesen Einreichungen wird auch in diesem Jahr wieder ein spannendes Kurzfilmprogramm zusammengestellt, das ausschließlich aus Filmen bestehen wird, die noch nie in Bayern zu sehen waren. Mit dieser geballten Ladung Kurzfilm bietet das MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival die konzentrierten Vorfilme als perfekte Einstimmung auf das "große" Filmfest München, das ihm ab dem 25. Juni folgt.

Call for entries 2010
MUNICH INTERNATIONAL is pleased to announce the call for entries for next year's short film festival which will take place from June 17th through 23rd of 2010. The festival will showcase the world's best contemporary short films at the historical Gloria Filmpalast in the heart of the Bavarian capitol.
Submissions are open to non-German language films of all genres (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental, etc.) from any nation of the world. Films must not have been shown in Bavaria at a festival, in a theatre or on Bavarian television before, and must not exceed a length of 15 minutes. All non-English films must have English subtitles. The festival only screens 35mm prints and progressive HD data files. The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2010, but we kindly ask that you send your film in as soon as possible rather than waiting until the deadline. Please check the complete submission requirements at www.muc-intl.de/entry.html.
To submit a film, please register at reelport.com – after registering, you will be guided through the necessary steps, from the entry of simple data requests to the automatic upload of a video file. You may also send a DVD preview copy to the address mentioned on the reelport website. Please do not send your preview copy directly to the festival.

"Das Schwein" gewinnt MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival 2009
Der dänische Beitrag "Das Schwein" (Grisen) von Dorte W. Høgh ist der Gewinnerfilm des MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival 2009. In dem 23minütigen Kurzfilm kommt der 78jährige Asbjørn (gespielt von Henning Moritzen) mit Verdacht auf Krebs ins Krankenhaus. Er fühlt sich verängstigt und einsam, aber ein Bild von einem springenden Schwein an der Wand wird zu seinem Schutzengel. Sein Bettnachbar Aslan ist Pakistani – und Moslem. Dessen Familie empfindet das Bild als beleidigend und läßt es entfernen. Der Streit, der daraufhin ausbricht, ist eine feine Parabel über die Grenzen der Toleranz – nicht zufällig aus dem Land des Karikaturenstreits. Das Erstlingswerk der Drehbuchautorin Dorte W. Høgh war im Frühjahr 2009 für einen Oscar nominiert – und konnte jetzt in München den von Kodak gestifteten Preis, Filmmaterial für das nächste Projekt der Regisseurin, davontragen. "The Pig" wins MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival 2009
The Danish competitor "The Pig" (Grisen) by Dorte W. Høgh receives the award of the 2009 MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival, being granted Kodak film material for her next project. In her 23-minute-short 78-year-old Asbjørn (Henning Moritzen) is admitted to the hospital with a possible cancer diagnosis. He feels scared and lonely, but a painting on the wall showing a jumping pig becomes his guardian angel. Aslan, the person in the next bed, is a Pakastani – and Muslim. His family finds the picture offensive and is having it removed. The following argument is a fine allegory on the limits of tolerance – surely no coincidence that this film originates from the country of the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy. Former screenwriter Dorte W. Høgh was nominated for Oscar this Spring – and now finally won in Munich. More information on the winning film can be found at www.muc-intl.de/2009/thepig.html.
Among the winners is, according to Festival director Martin Blankemeyer from Muenchner Filmwerkstatt, the MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival ifself: "The growing attendance at the Gloria Palast on Stachus as well as many positive reactions on the films, who would never have been discovered by the Bavarian audience without this festival, are the best reward for our involvement. In addition to this, our concept to strenghen the festival character, to invite more international filmmakers and to enrich the screenings by a two-day Master Class and daily workshops worked fine – all this was possible with the help of the new supporters of the festival: Kulturstiftung der Stadtsparkasse München, Bavaria Film, B2BTrip and NH Hoteles. This constant growth of the MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival is the best basis to further amelioration in 2010, where the festival will take place from June 17 to 23.
